Sara Jansen is a dramaturg and researcher. She holds degrees in Japanese Studies (K.U. Leuven, Belgium) and Performance Studies (New York University) and was a visiting researcher at Waseda University (Tokyo, Japan). Her academic areas of specialization include (dance) dramaturgy, dance/performance theory and Japanese performing arts. Sara writes on performance and has translated work by Japanese playwrights including Oriza Hirata, Toshiki Okada and Takeshi Kawamura. In 2002, she was the assistant-curator of Rosas XX (Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels), a large retrospective exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of the Rosas dance company, and editor of the book Rosas/Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. Since then she has collaborated on different Rosas productions. She was the assistant-director on in pieces (2009) a collaboration between Fumiyo Ikeda (Rosas) and Tim Etchells (Forced Entertainment). She also worked on performances by a.o. KVS and Transquinquennal (In het bos/Dans les bois, 2008) and Moya Michael (Right here right now here now now now, 2012). Sara is the dramaturg on Hibi, a collaboration between Yukiko Shinozaki and Un Yamada (Co.YamadaUn), borrowed landscape (Leuven 2013) and gone here (yet) to come (2021). She has also been collaborating with Avdal and Shinozaki on the project unwritten conversation.
